Children with Disabilities Internship Internship
We provide educational programs for students with moderate to high support needs. Our school caters for 63 students 4 – 18 year olds across 10 classes. There is a qualified special education teacher and teacher’s aide on each class.
Our programs support students with a moderate to severe intellectual disability, who may also have additional support needs related to autism, physical disabilities and/or sensory disabilities. The physical environment of our indoor and outdoor learning areas specifically address the many and varying special needs of the wide range of students enrolled. Class sizes at our school also reflect the support needs of our students. Each class of approximately six students has a special education teacher and a teacher’s aide special. In addition to school staffing, students receive support, at school and home from a Sydney disability team who provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy as required. Each student has a Learning Support Team which may include parents, family members, teacher and teacher’s aide special, the principal, school counsellor and therapists. This team develops an Individual Education Plan, an IEP, with outcomes for learning. Student progress is published in their individual portfolios.

Specialist lessons: Swimming (heated pool), Cooking in kitchen, gym, library & multi sensory room
Work together with our School Counsellor (psychologist) and introduction to her tasks: Assessments, interviewing & reporting to parents, designing & implementing behaviour plans etc.

Are the Children with Disabilities Internships paid?
The Children with Disabilities Internships are voluntary/unpaid as the main benefit is to you through a meaningful learning experience, NOT on photocopying and making coffee. However, many host companies offer a stipend such as weekly transport costs. The internship will assist you in taking a big step towards your future career.
When can I start my Children with Disabilities Internship?
Our Children with Disabilities Internship start dates are flexible. We have students starting internships almost every Monday of the year (except in December and the first week of January).
Do you organise graduation Children with Disabilities Internships?
Yes. We can arrange internships to meet your graduation requirements. These commonly involve an assignment topic or thesis subject.
Can I receive credit from my University for the Internship?
If you send us your University requirements in order to gain credit for the internship then we will make sure to arrange a placement which meets these requirements.
Do you charge a fee for arranging a Children with Disabilities Internship?
Yes, there is a fee for the comprehensive service we provide. Our fees will be sent to you once you have completed the enquiry form.
