Describe the path from your internship in Australia to your current position
As an Intern at the hotel’s Sydney’s Team Department, I learned the in’s and out’s of organizational structure, employee engagement, and maintaining a business afloat during unprecedented times such as the Covid pandemic. This enriched my human resource skills which I now apply in my studies at my Master’s program.

How did the internship in Australia contribute towards reaching your current status?
It gave me insight into the field of Human Resources and Organizational structure, which is what my studies in my master’s program target. It also gave me insight to international business procedures that I had not encountered beforehand.

What were the most important OFFICE SKILLS you learnt during your internship?
Planning, Administrative Paperwork, Communication, employee outreach, interdepartmental outreach, Excel proficiency, file organization, phone call and follow ups, and outlook plan-book systems

What were the most important INDUSTRY SPECIFIC SKILLS you learnt during your internship?
Recruitment, Employee Engagement, Talent Management, Hiring/Firing Procedures, Downsizing/ Stand down procedures, Social Media Management, and Employee filing

Are you still in contact with the friends you made while you were in Australia?
Yes

Best memory from your time in Australia?
My best memories would definitely be learning to surf at Surf Camp Australia and hiking the Blue Mountains.

What do you miss most about your time in Australia?
The people! Everyone I met was so kind and eager to help or get to know me. (However, I don’t know how much longer I can go without some Timtams)

Advice for anyone thinking about completing an internship in Australia?
Don’t be afraid to break out of your comfort zone! There are so many places to explore so plan ahead to try to get to as many places as you can!
