Sydney is a really big, vibrant city. It is one of the largest cities of the world regarding its surface. Every neighborhood is different and there are plenty of things to do everywhere.
Sydney is located at the Tasman Sea in the south-east of Australia. The city developed from its natural port (Port Jackson). The two famous icons, the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, are located today at Port Jackson. Currently, the city is growing further inland towards the hills of nature reserves like the Blue Mountains and along the coast.
Sydney Opera House
If you think of Sydney, the world-famous Opera House is very likely to be the first thing on your mind. The design is famous all over the world and the building is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
To build the Opera House, an international architectural competition was held in 1955. Jørn Utzon won this competition with the current design which he has designed, according to rumors, without using a ruler or calculator but just by drawing the building by hand. The designer loved sailing, a fact that you are able to spot in the design of the roof which imitates sails or shells drifting on the water. The location of the Opera House directly in the harbor enhances this symbolism even more.

The Sydney Opera House is one of the busiest cultural centers of the world. It encompasses not only the opera house but also another 3 concert halls as well as several restaurants and bars.
Attending a concert in the beautifully designed Concert Hall is a truly unique experience, but you have to be quick to book your tickets as they are very popular. If you are not attending a performance, joining a tour is a good alternative. Here you get the chance to look behind the scenes of this unique building while you are going to be guided around by an experienced guide who can tell you everything about it. You can also dine in the building with a magnificent view on the harbor.
Sydney Harbour Bridge
Climbing the Harbour Bridge and balancing across provides not only a challenge but offers you a magnificent view over the harbor and the city as well. The walk takes about 3 hours in which you will get not only a magnificent view but also plenty of interesting information about Sydney and its surroundings.

Bondi Beach
This is the most famous beach in Australia. It is perfect for sunbathers and surfers and the starting point of the Australian beach culture.
If you intern through 'Internships Down Under', you have the chance to live close to this beach because we can arrange accommodation for you at Bondi Junction which is within walking distance to this famous beach. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the sun in your spare time.

Sydney Tower
Look out over Sydney from the viewing platform located 250 meters above the ground. This platform also revolves slowly, so you are able to profit from a 360 degree view of Sydney. Visiting the tower after nightfall is also very impressive as you can enjoy a bird's view of this huge city illuminated.

Sydney Aquarium
From Sydney, it is still quite some distance (more than 1,000 km) to the Great Barrier Reef. If you do not want to travel this far but still see coral reefs, then you can visit the Sydney Aquarium. You can see nearly 6,000 marine animals from nearly 650 different species. The pools are built to represent the natural surroundings of these species and you can see all this like you are standing in the middle of the ocean by walking through the two underwater corridors.

Darling Harbour
This district is perfect for going out as there are plenty of museums, gardens, cinemas, casinos, shopping malls, cafés and restaurants. Therefore, Darling Harbour is a main tourist attraction. From the city centre, you can easily reach this district by ferry or monorail.
