Back to Australia

Melbourne is seen as the cultural and fashion capital of Australia. It is also an especially multicultural city as a third of the inhabitants are not Australians. Through this cultural variety, there are many different neighborhoods in Melbourne. For example, there are Italian, Chinese, Turkish and many other international neighborhoods. The city also has many different restaurants and is a great place to go out and party, eat delicious food and shop. Various events are organized throughout the year within the city and in its surroundings, so there is always something to do.

Docklands
The place to be in Melbourne is currently the Docklands. This old harbor area, where many docks for loading and unloading ships were situated, is a now changed into a modern area. You can find here new restaurants, a casino and shopping malls with one of the most interesting areas being the Waterfront City. This is a shopping and entertainment area with, amongst other things, a gigantic Big (Ferris) Wheel looking like a star. Many events take place close by throughout the year.

Gratis City Circle Tram
You can take the City Circle Tram for free to ride around the Docklands in other areas. Visit many more attractions of Melbourne with this authentic wooden tram. For example, go to the St. Paul's Cathedral, the Parliament House, the Princess Theatre, Flinders Street Station or the State Library hopping on and off as you like.

Federation Square
The Federation Square was built in 2001 to commemorate 100 years of Australia as independent country within the Commonwealth. It is thus a rather new complex in the centre of the city which stands out even more in this part of town where most buildings have been built in the 19th century.

Federation Square

Several museums, for example the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, the National Design Centre or the National Gallery of Victoria (where you can find Aboriginal art amongst other things) can be found around this square. Furthermore, you can find hip cafés and restaurants there as well. Here, you can look out from sunny terraces over the river and the botanic gardens.Back to Australia
